Universisade Senior

USO was created in 1994, as a non-profit association with the support of the members associates. As a senior university, USO is very focused on demystifying myths related to old age and aging processes, developing active participation. Motivating social and intergenerational interaction, citizenship, encouraging human values of solidarity and sharing, and preserving a collective memory is very importantfor the third sector. Its also crucial relativizing judgmentsand promoting the critical spirit and discussion forecast for a new generation of social participative ager´s. Through the various disciplines (over 150 classes), it aims to create larger knowledge and to stimulate curiosity, design and crtical thinking, with the intention of opening new frontier´s for its students, forecasting effectiveness in action. USO has a board management and, in this school year, around 100 teachers, 600 students and 4 staff (the only ones that are paid in the institution). The USO teachears are volunteers (almost retired, too), but they can also be students. Each year, each teacher submits the programs and methodologies that intends to teach. Each student chooses the preferred disciplines to sign up, with a limit for theory and pratica. There are no specific rules regarding the disciplines that each one chooses to enroll, although they have a limited number of years for attendance. There isn´t any final evaluation although the indiators used by USO develop a rank of good and not so good disciplines.
