ACTIVE BRAIN GAMES
“Active Brain Games for Seniors” is an international project carried out under the European Union Erasmus+ program with the project number 2024-1-PT01-KA220-ADU-000253511. Started on September 1, 2024 and planned to be completed on October 31, 2026, the main objective of this project is to develop games and tools specifically designed to maintain and improve the cognitive and physical skills of the rapidly growing elderly population.
The main focus of the project is to strengthen the cognitive functions and memory, support social life and improve the quality of life of people over the age of 65, who today make up approximately 21% of the population in the European Union and partner countries. Research shows that professionals working with older people often use self-prepared methods that are often not effective enough. This project aims to provide more effective and professional tools to support the cognitive health of older people.
Within the scope of the project, both physical and digital games were developed in accordance with the psychological, cognitive and physical characteristics of the elderly. These games include one physical board game, one manual skills game, two digital storytelling games and two analytical thinking games. In addition, a guidebook was prepared for them to use these games effectively.
In order to disseminate the project, four national and one international events were organized, and newsletters and articles were published on the EPALE platform. The project is coordinated by Universidade Sénior de Oeiras (Portugal) and partner organizations include Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University (Turkey), Drustvo za izobrazevanje in socialni razvoj (Slovenia) and Danske Gymnastik og Idrætsforening (Denmark).
