DGI is a sports association in Denmark dedicated to improving the conditions for over 6,300 member sports clubs and more than 1.5 million individuals. Since its inception in 1992, DGI has actively supported the creation of communities that inspire people to join local sports clubs and associations, fostering an environment where individuals can thrive. DGI is divided into 14 regions, with DGI Vestjylland being one of them. This region covers four municipalities: Lemvig, Struer, Holstebro and Ringkøbing-Skjern, with over 65,000 members participating in 280 sports clubs. We organize more than 500 events annually, spanning over 25 different sports and activities.
The outcomes of this project will be shared across all four municipalities involved. However, Struer Municipality will particularly benefit, as it places a strong emphasis on dementia care and is in the progress of establishing a dementia strategy. As a result, this project aligns well with Struer’s priorities and will be seamlessly integrated into the community.
Through this initiative, DGI Vestjylland aims to inspire individuals to lead more active lifestyles while providing a valuable tool to help delay the onset of dementia. With a special focus on senior citizens, the project seeks to enhance their social, mental and physical well-being, while also promoting the preservation of cognitive health. By fostering greater community engagement and mental stimulation, we hope to help seniors maintain sharp minds and improve their overall quality of life. This project not only supports individual well-being but also strengthens the local community’s commitment to dementia care and prevention.
